Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years, dating back to ancient times, although it wasn't fine-tuned and until a few hundred years ago. It really took off after 1910 when a lab accident led Rene Gattefosse (1881-1950), a French chemist and perfumer, to use lavender essence on an injury and healing was noted. Many naturopaths and consumers swear by the benefits of essential oils to heal or prevent sickness. Questions have been raised on actual benefits from the essential oils themselves with many articles stating they have a placebo effect. While there is no conclusive research that essential oils actually do what they claim, nice aromas are, well, nice. There's no harm in using essential oils in moderation, but it is never recommended to ingest them. Keep in mind, some are toxic to animals as well.
