Artificial Sweetener

In an effort to avoid sugar and excess calories, many people use foods labeled "sugar-free." Many of these foods use artificial sweetener in place of real sugar. There are several different types of artificial sweetener or sugar substitutes. These include aspartame, acesulfame potassium, and Splenda (or sucralose), among others. These artificial sweeteners are sugar substitutes used to make drinks and foods taste like they contain sugar.

Diabetics have to watch carbohydrate intake because it can cause blood glucose to go up, and one way to enjoy their favorite foods or drinks is to choose those with artificial sweeteners rather than sugar. Others use artificial sweeteners to avoid excess calories in an effort to lose weight. So are artificial sweeteners beneficial or harmful? Artificial Sweeteners: Good or Bad?
