You've probably heard of turmeric, especially recently, in the news and health journals. Turmeric is a plant in the ginger family. It is used as a common spice and is the main ingredient in curry. Although used to provide flavor to foods and even used as a dye for fabrics, it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine and Asian countries have long used turmeric for many health conditions. Turmeric is believed to provide anti-inflammatory properties when consumed in foods or as a supplement. Some practitioners believe it can be useful in burning belly fat. Of course, before taking any supplements, it is important to discuss the use of turmeric with your physician. Turmeric can interact with some medications when taken as a supplement. Pregnant women can consume turmeric in foods, but it is not advisable to take it as a supplement.
