Mood and Music

ree

Does music really affect your mood? Science says indeed it does. It can make you happier and less irritable, it can hype you up and give you that little "oomph" to power through that workout, or it can calm your mind and ease stress. The type of music you listen to affects you more than you think. With so many genres to choose from, there's something for everyone. Repetitive, boring tasks? Choose something to play in the background that makes you feel peppy. Music with 50-80 beats per minute can help with imagination and concentration. Dutch neurologist Jacob Jolij found the most cheerful music had 140-150 beats per minute, written in a major key, and about happy circumstances or nonsense. If you need to study, choose instrumental without lyrics. Whatever you're looking to accomplish, music really can make a difference.
