Ah....the smell of the coffee brewing in the morning.....a lot of people start their day with a steaming hot cuppa joe. Some can't get started without it. Caffeine is the substance we crave in the coffee, and caffeine is addicting! Your body will actually go through withdrawals if you stop consuming caffeine abruptly. Caffeine can also be found in teas, kola nuts, and chocolate. The
amount of caffeine differs, however, with coffee generally being the highest amount of caffeine per serving. Caffeine stimulates your nervous system, making you feel more awake and alert. It also has a diuretic effect. However, too much caffeine can have negative effects on the body, such as increased acid production in the stomach, and increase in your blood pressure. If you are pregnant or nursing, caffeine can also have a negative effect. Many energy drinks contain high levels of synthetic caffeine. This has led to negative outcomes for some people. You can have too much caffeine! It is a good idea to always use moderation.
